St George, St Andrew, St David and St Patrick - who were they and why were they adopted as the British and Irish patron saints?

23/4/2018

Picture
St George's Day means cake for morning tea in the GBPensions office! This gave us a moment to pause and consider that we've already marked the "feast days" of three of Britain and Ireland's patron saints. But who were these men and why do we celebrate them on those particular dates?

Here is our first interesting fact of the day. Did you know that Saints' Days are celebrated on the days upon which they are believed to have met their (sometimes grisly) demise? This seems unusual in its precision, since there are often very few specifics known about their lives.

Is your UK Defined Benefits pension worth more than £30,000? GBPensions' partnership means we can help with your pension transfer!

22/8/2015

Picture
GBPensions have an overseas alliance which means that we can still assist clients with the transfer of UK Final Salary (aka Defined Benefits or DB) pension schemes of £30,000 or more.

Problems with DB pension transfers of
£30,000+ have arisen recently as an inadvertent result of the UK's new Pensions Freedom rules. Under these guidelines, members of DB pension schemes wishing to move their funds must now seek advice from a financial adviser who is not only authorised by the UK authorities but who also has the appropriate UK pension transfer qualifications. An anomaly in the UK regulatory system means that very few UK advisers are permitted by the UK financial authorities to give such advice – even if they have the appropriate UK qualifications and are willing to do so.

GBPensions' Referral Programme – feel good and make a difference

22/7/2015

Picture
To coincide with the launch of GBPensions' new and improved website, we're excited to introduce our new and improved referral programme!

Previously, whenever someone was kind enough to recommend GBPensions to a friend or colleague – and that friend or colleague chose us to assist with their UK pension transfer – we'd say "thank you" with a cheque for $100. We are still offering that choice, but now you'll also have the option to donate your referrer's reward to one of three outstanding charities.

They are Humane Rescue, Rehabilitation & Rehoming Trust (HURRAH), Ronald McDonald House® Auckland and The Orangutan Project.

Another hurdle for ex-NHS workers wishing to transfer their pension to NZ?

27/11/2014

Picture
With the UK Treasury’s proposed 31st March 2015 deadline looming, many former public sector employees are already scrambling to get their pension transfer underway.  However, there is now another issue of which ex-NHS workers should be aware.  In the last few weeks, the administrators of the NHS Scheme have informed GBPensions that they have updated their processes – which means that recent transfer applicants may need to file new paperwork.

GBPensions' director Tony Chamberlain explains more.  "If you’ve signed the Letter of Authority for your pension transfer in the last few weeks, then you should contact your adviser and request a new version of form TV27, as a signature is now required to confirm that you have read the administrators’ booklet."

GBPensions were proud to be one of the sponsors of the New Zealand Association for Migration & Investment's (NZAMI) recent annual conference.  More than 140 of the country's most respected immigration consultants, lawyers and tax advisers attended the event, which was held in suitably impressive style at Eden Park.

As well as speakers from the world of politics and economics, the delegates were entertained by the excellent Bollywood Bhangra dance troupe.   They were so enthusiastic, colourful and vibrant that even our own Tony Chamberlain managed to find his inner Bollywood!
